Biden called Russia shameless

US President Joe Biden accused Russia of “brazenly violating the fundamental principles of the UN Charter”. Biden made the allegations while addressing world leaders on the second day of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session on Wednesday (September 21).
Aljazeera, a Qatar-based media outlet, reported this information in a report on Thursday (September 22). According to the report, Joe Biden complained to the United Nations General Assembly that Russia’s aggression in Ukraine is a blatant violation of the basic principles of the United Nations Charter.
  • In a speech given there, Biden also called the war brutal and unnecessary. He said Vladimir Putin made an open nuclear threat against Europe on Wednesday. He also called upon the whole world to keep an eye on the terrible activities of Russia.
  • The US president said that nobody wants a conflict except the Moscow government. Biden even warned that Russia is holding a “fake referendum” to annex parts of Ukraine’s occupied territories to the Russian mainland.
  • Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial military mobilization in Russia to “protect the motherland”. In a televised address to the nation on Wednesday, he said it was a necessary step to ensure territorial integrity and protect the people of the Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine.
  • Last Tuesday, the regions announced a snap referendum on joining Russia. Putin insisted on Wednesday that reserve troops would be called up for the rally. He accused Western countries of wanting Russia to destroy the country, just as they destroyed the Soviet Union.
  • The Russian president also accused the West of engaging in “nuclear blackmail”. Putin said he was not making any empty promises, but that his country would use “all possible means” to protect its territorial integrity.
  • As a result of Vladimir Putin’s directive, all reservists who have served or trained in the Russian military for future military service will now be called up to fight.
  • Putin said that Russia has many weapons ready. He also ordered additional funds to increase Russia’s arms production. Threatening the Western countries, he said, “If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will take all measures to protect Russia and its people.

This is not an empty bully.

“Those who want to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the backlash can also be directed at them,” Putin threatened in effect.

Speaking after President Putin, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday that 300,000 reserve troops would be called up to fight in Ukraine. He said, this number is only one percent of Russia’s total 2.5 million reserve soldiers.

After Putin’s announcement, the military gathering started on Wednesday, the BBC reported.

In response to this announcement by Putin and the Russian Defense Minister, US President Joe Biden said, “Nuclear war can never be won and that is why this war should not happen.”

“We are seeing disturbing trends (in Russia),” he said. Russia is making irresponsible nuclear threats to use nuclear weapons.

But the US is ready to pursue serious arms control measures, he said.
